About Me
- Don Pollack
- was born in Chicago and is a Painter and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Visual Communication at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Professor of Visual Communications at the Illinois Institute of Art Chicago. His work explores the relationship between personal and cultural mythologies. Pollack’s landscapes reference nineteenth-century daguerreotypes as a metaphor for memory and a source for abstract surfaces. This work has also led him to investigate the role of “museums” in this process. The creation and display of painted documents, maps, signs, and portraits have also been included in recent exhibition-installations. Don studied design at the University of Illinois and painting at the Ohio State University where he received his MFA. Recently, the state of Illinois recognized him with a special bicentennial edition of the ‘Order of Lincoln’ award. He has shown at Perimeter Gallery, Chicago and New York, Newzones Gallery, Calgary, Canada, Marcia Wood Gallery, Atlanta, and Margaret Thatcher Gallery, New York.
